I feel like emotions are teetering lately. Up and down and all around. So I think it's a good idea to share some advice with all of you that I've passed on to the students in my Energies and Emotions class.
Take a moment to think about, even list, your greatest memories. What moments in your past have given you the greatest pleasure? Everyone has at least one memory that when recalled, they immediately smile. Use it. When you find that your emotions are escaping your control, letting anger, sadness, or doubt overwhelm you, force yourself to remember those key moments in your life when you felt like you were on top of the world. It will help center you.
Another good exercise that I've suggested to my students, is to list the most painful memories of your life. When have you been at your worst? It's valuable to think back on these moments and remember how you felt when you were in that moment. More than likely, you thought you'd never recover, that you'd always be be miserable, that there was no relief in sight. But you survived it. Thinking about these moments can help you realize your own strength.
